New Adventure
I stand here today writing this officially as a "race" organizer. Well, not really a race, but more like a fund raising campaign.
We all go through life trying to find our purpose and a class that I am taking at Church is called "The Great Adventure" made me realize that even more recently. It is part of our Men's Fraternity group and some of what we have been talking about lately is finding your passion and using the gifts and talents you have to find that one thing in life that excites you. We are also going to be starting a great campaign at Church and I thought what better way to use my gifts to better the Church and a little part of the world.
I have been praying for a long time to find my purpose and God has really been pushing my heart to use my love for running to do something. I have always wanted to run for a charity, but never found the right one. I could run for children's cancer research, I could run for cancer research, I could run for homeless shelters, I could run for this or I could run for that. I really think that it was part of God's plan to say "Look, I have bigger plans for you. Just be patient and that thing will come." So I have been looking and not finding anything. Once these two things came up I knew that this was it. This was the thing that He has been pointing me toward. Now that I have bored you with the little details here it is. I am staging a 4-6 person relay race across the state of Iowa. There it is. 330 miles over 5 days raising money for the orphanage in South Africa that is sponsored by my church. Wow!!! I don't know what I am doing, but this is going to be a trip.
I am in turn asking for some things from you, the viewing public. I am obviously asking for your prayers that this goes over smoothly. I am also asking that if you know of anyone who owns/runs/works in a business (small or large) that would consider being a sponsor of this event, please let me know who they are or have them contact me directly. I am planning on running the race in the fall of 2009. I am currently gathering my team and getting all of the approval from the leaders at our church. I am going to be asking for sponsorship and private donations, so please watch your inboxes near the first of the year and please know that anything that you give, small or large, will go directly to help orphans that have been affected by the AIDS epidemic that has basically taken over the continent of Africa.
This is not going to be a campaign to help the church, but a campaign to help these children that have been abandoned, left homeless and left without parents to guide them through life. These are children that are being provided with the necessities of life and learning the marvelous word of our Lord. This is going to be a huge undertaking and I will need all of the support I can take. I ask for your prayers and thoughts as I organize this with others. I ask that you pray for our safety and guidance. This is something that I have never done before and am looking forward to the challenge and know that the reward will be more worth the effort than what I put in.
